Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace backup guides
Plain-English answers to the questions we’re asked most about protecting cloud data. Every figure is checked against Microsoft’s and Google’s own documentation, with the sources listed in each guide.
Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace keep your services running, but neither is built to bring back data you have lost. Deleted mail, files and accounts sit in recycle bins and restore windows for a set number of days, then the built-in tools can’t bring them back. Tools such as retention policies and Google Vault are designed for compliance and eDiscovery, not for putting a mailbox or shared drive back the way it was.
These guides set out where the built-in limits are, what a backup adds, and how to show an insurer, auditor or board that your backups actually work. Each one cites Microsoft’s, Google’s or the regulator’s own documentation, and we review them when those sources change. If you are new to the topic, start with Microsoft 365 retention vs backup or Is Google Vault a backup?, then read about the backup compliance score and the evidence insurers and auditors ask for.
